I'm Broken

My ankle is malfunctioning. To say the least anyway. Okay, here's what happened. When I fell, I thought I just dislocated it....ha! I laugh at myself and my pitiful ignorance.........by the way, I would like to thank everyone at the playground for their support.........okay, so here's the thing.

When I jumped from the playground equipment, I dislocated my ankle, broke my ankle, fractured my "tibula" (the little long bone in the calf, I'm not sure what its called or how it's spelled) in many places and broke my tibula, as well as tore several nerves and severed all ligaments in the joint.....but, morphine makes it all better. I have a long list of drugs they gave me but I can't find it now.....

I went into surgery on Monday morning......they cut my left leg open *my doctor said I had very nice calf muscles after he sliced through it* (I had had two epiderrals, please excuse my spelling, so I don't remember any of this or the following six hours during which my face and lips were white)......they cut my leg open, picked out bone fragments, put everything in place, and put a large metal plate on my tibula. They held it in place with nine metal screws. Then, due to the lack of ligaments and tendons to hold my ankle together, they put a large bolt (not visible beneath the skin) through my ankle to hold it in place.

I am currently on crutches and drugs, actually I take that back. I have weaned myself off of the drugs ahead of schedule and do not take them on a regular basis. I now only take them when I experience extreme pain which has not been for the last two days, that I can remember. I am on crutches and can get around alright. I'm having my stitches out on Tuesday and a new cast put on. for the next 6 to 8 weeks, there must be no weight on the leg. After that, I will move on to a boot which I will wear into next spring. Then I will be able to walk unaided across the stage to recieve my diploma. Somewhere in the near future within a year or two, the bolts and screws and plate will be removed from my leg, in time to allow me to go into the military after a quick recovery.

I'm fine.....I'm great......thank you for your concern and your help, I will see you soon but I need to go now b/c my ankle is throbbing and my toes are starting to turn purple. Gotta go, bye.
